چکیده

Injection of CO, into depleted natural gas reservoirs offers the potential to sequester carbon while simultaneously enhancing CH, recovey. Enhanced CH, recovery can partially offset the costs of CO, injection. With the goal of analyzing the feasibility of carbon sequestration with enhanced gas recovery (CSEGR), we are investigating the physical processes associated with injecting CO, into natural gas reservoirs. The properties of natural gas reservoirs and CO, and CH, appear to favor CSEGR. In order to simulate the processes of CSEGR in detail, a module for the TOUGH2 reservoir simulator that includes water, brine, CO,, tracer, and CH, in nonisothermal conditions has been developed. Simulations based on the Rio Vista Gas Field in the Central Valley of California are used to test the feasibility of CSEGR using CO, separated from flue gas generated by the 680 MW Antioch gas-fired power plant. Model results show that CO, injection allows additional methane to be produced during or after CO, injection.

Enhanced Gas Recovery with Carbon Dioxide Sequestration in a Water-drive Gas Condensate Reservoir: a Case Study in a Real Gas Field

Gas reservoirs usually have high recovery due to high mobility and low residual gas saturation, although some of them producing under water-drive mechanism have low recovery efficiency. Encroachment of water into these reservoirs traps considerable amount of gas and increases the maximum residual gas saturation, which results in the reduction of gas and condensate production. Generally, the rec...

Carbon Sequestration with Enhanced Gas Recovery: Identifying Candidate Sites for Pilot Study

Depleted natural gas reservoirs are promising targets for carbon dioxide sequestration. Although depleted, these reservoirs are not devoid of methane, and carbon dioxide injection may allow enhanced production of methane by reservoir repressurization or pressure maintenance. Based on the favorable results of numerous simulation studies, we propose a field test of the Carbon Sequestration with E...

UTILIZING CONCEPTUAL MODELING IN THE STUDY OF ONE OF THE IRANIAN FRACTURED CARBONATE RESERVOIRS

A typical Iranian carbonate matrix block surrounded by an open fracture was modeled in order to understand the fracture-matrix interaction and realize how to model the interaction best. The modeling was carried out by using a fine-scaled Eclipse model in the single porosity mode (the fractures were explicitly modeled). The model was extended to a stack of 6 matrix blocks to understand block-to-...

CARBON DIOXIDE MINIMUM MISCIBILITY PRESSURE ESTIMATION (CASE STUDY)

Carbon dioxide flooding is considered to be one of the most effective enhanced oil recovery methods for the light oil reservoirs. Depending on the operating pressure, the process might be miscible or immiscible. Minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) is the most important parameter for assessing the applicability of any miscible gas flood for an oil reservoir. The miscibility condition is determine...

Wellbore associated problems due to gas injection into non-horizontal structures

The rapid growth in natural gas consumption has increased the need for gas storage, in particular in the form of injection into depleted reservoirs. Also, CO2 sequestration into the depleted reservoirs has attracted a large attention recently. However, it is important to ensure that the injection pressure is maintained below a certain limit to avoid unsealing the cap rock or reactivation of any...
